9/9 Maine
On Saturday, after a lot of muddy cleanup in the morning, we headed to Maine to see the Atlantic Ocean and the Nubble Lighthouse. We were hitched back up to the trailer again, so I was a little worried about parking at the lighthouse. When we got nearby, the road had a gravel shoulder wide enough for the trailer, so we pulled over and unhitched. Then we went to the lighthouse and climbed on the rocks by the ocean (and waded in a little). The weather was much cooler, though still warm. After the lighthouse, we decided to get lunch and buy gas while we were unhitched. When we returned to the trailer a couple of hours later, a man walked out to me and told me that we were parked on his property and he had called the police! There were no signs or anything indicating that this was private property, and it was right alongside the road. But we hitched up in a hurry and got out of there! I didn't do as thorough an inspection as I usually would when hitching up, and we accidentally left our wheel chocks behind. Now we like to say that we lost our chocks in Maine when we were running from the law!
After we left Maine, we went to New Hampshire to camp. I had two possible campsites planned, one in a campground that didn't take reservations, and one at a dispersed camping area. But it was dark by the time we got near our camping areas, so we didn't want to try dispersed camping. We went to the campground. It was another back-in site, so I had to drive back and forth for a while in the dark, blocking the road as I did, but I think I got in more quickly this time than the last. At least the site was pretty level, so we didn't have much to do in the way of leveling or hookups once we got backed in properly. We continued to have difficulty getting to bed on time. Everything in an RV with three kids seems to take so long to get done!
