On Saturday, after a lot of muddy cleanup in the morning, we headed to Maine to see the Atlantic Ocean and the Nubble Lighthouse. We were hitched back up to the trailer again, so I was a little worried about parking at the lighthouse. When we got nearby, the road had a gravel shoulder wide enough for the trailer, so we pulled over and unhitched. Then we went to the lighthouse and climbed on the rocks by the ocean (and waded in a little). The weather was much cooler, though still warm. After the lighthouse, we decided to get lunch and buy gas while we were unhitched. When we returned to the trailer a couple of hours later, a man walked out to me and told me that we were parked on his property and he had called the police! There were no signs or anything indicating that this was private property, and it was right alongside the road. But we hitched up in a hurry and got out of there! I didn't do as thorough an inspection as I usually wo...
We left our free campsite west of Yellowstone, drove across Montana and visited Little Bighorn Battlefield and visitors center. Summer earned her 3rd Junior Ranger badge. Then we camped in another free site nearby. Summer relaxed while the rest of us bathed in the river. The cicadas were very loud.
On Tuesday, we had a factory tour scheduled at Ben & Jerry's at 1:00, and they were very clear about not giving refunds if we missed our tour time, so we wanted to be out of our campsite by 9:00 in the morning. We streamlined our breakfast and unhooking and hitching back up and drove away almost on time, which was a big accomplishment for us! The U.S. border crossing was a little interesting, because the trailer didn't fit very well through the narrow passageway for cars and they didn't have a section open for RVs. I held up the line for a minute or two while I maneuvered around the obstacles. When we got to the front, the customs agent asked if we had any food we bought from Canada, and we remembered that we had some leftovers. He asked if we had any citrus fruit, and I said yes, I thought we might have some cut blood orange left over, and he wasn't very happy with me! ("You THINK? You don't KNOW if you have it?") I had to...
